Maybe you are lucky and your skin is like something out of a photo shoot first thing in the morning. But for a lot of us that isn’t the case. And it’s often not until there is a problem with our skin that we pay attention and start looking for solutions.
And when you do look, oh my gosh, there is so, so much information, lotions and potions mostly. Cleanser, toner, exfoliator, serum, anti-aging creams, moisturiser and the list goes on and on.
And I have been guilty of it myself, buying into those big brands and promises, clever branding and advertising. I think I spent £100 on one trip to decleor in desperation to sort my skin out. And guess what, it didn’t help. Then I went on to Clinique, it sort of helped, but it’s a very expensive little habit.
What was clear is the cheaper ones made it worse for sure.
I personally didn’t think I was that vain until I had a chronic skin disorder and I was horrified with how it made me feel. I felt like I couldn’t go out and that made me feel depressed. I felt like everyone could see how awful my skin was. Actually when I was brave enough to tell people how I felt they didn’t even know what I was talking about.
The beauty industry is a multi-million pound industry, and not just creams, but makeup to hide what we think is bad skin, which is actually the worst thing you can do.
I am going to let you into a little secret that doesn’t really get talked about a lot for how you can have good skin, trust me on this one:
· Don’t drink alcohol.
· People don’t normally think about it when picking up a glass but alcohol affects your skin in a number of ways:
· Skin is the body’s largest organ and alcohol dehydrates all of your systems a lot so your skin is going to take a big hit.
· Drinking too much can also deprive the skin of essential vitamins and nutrients.
· Alcohol can make our face and our body look bloated and puffy, particularly if you drink regularly.
· Redness, puffiness, spots, dry skin, our skin just generally looking a bit old and worn out, are all symptoms of your drinking, whether that’s a regular daily tipple or the weekend binge.
Oh I nearly forgot to mention the bags under the eyes.
Check out the drink aware website for more info on how it effects your skin.
I guarantee you 100% that if you take some time off the booze your skin will significantly improve. Not only will you look better and feel healthier but you will be saving money on alcohol, skin creams and makeup.
Imagine what you could do with that extra money?
If you can’t imagine a life without alcohol (seriously we need to talk). Then think of it as taking a break, a holiday to give your skin a break and see if it improves. The longer you can take a break the better. A week isn’t really going to cut it and if that’s all you can manage (seriously we need to talk!!) then do the week, but then maybe slow down as well.
A month would be great to be able to see and feel the difference. You will be surprised how quickly you start to see an improvement.
